Jos W. Nourse was a prominent figure in county education matters serving as county superintendent for several years, shaping educational policy and administration.

Death Claims Prominent Rockport Citizen

Friends in Rockport were shocked by the death of Joseph W. Nourse after a week of pneumonia. He was born in Bardstown Kentucky in 1841 and moved to Rockport in 1872 to run a drug and book business. He served as County Superintendent of schools and was a longtime member of the Presbyterian church. A January 1875 marriage to Nettie Fee produced four children. He was a senior partner in Nourse & Limberger Company and active in local church work. The obituary notes his high regard among citizens.

Spencer County Farmers Institute to Meet in Rockport

The regular session of the Spencer county farmers institute will be held in Rockport next year with aims to be the county’s best. Rockport merchants have subscribed over 50 dollars for premium awards to encourage superior farm products. Membership costs 25 cents yearly, open to any farmer or interested person by giving name and fee to officers KE. H. Jones Philip Atkinson Jr or W. W. Guy, who serve as President Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Park Commission Approves Entrance Improvements in City

Nancy Hanks Lincoln park commission met last Thursday with J. C. Meyenberg of Tell City. They authorized landscaping and concreting at the park entrance. Only part of the planned work was arranged, to finish in about four months. After completion, further landscaping extension will be pursued. The fencing company hopes to complete the fence in a few weeks if weather permits.

Soldier Luther Brown Enlists in Cavalry at Evansville

Luther Brown joined the U S Army Cavalry after enlisting at the Evansville Army Recruiting Station on December 12 1907. He passed a superior physical exam by Capt Reed and was sent to Jefferson Barracks Missouri for preliminary training before assignment to his regiment.

Mrs Claude Kincaid Dies After Long Illness

Mrs Claude Kincaid died Thursday after a long illness. She is survived by her husband two children a father four brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at Shiloh Church Friday at 2 30 in the afternoon.
