The Ben Hur order in Spencer county held a large initiation event with about five hundred members attending at the city auditorium. Supreme Chief Gerard and state manager P. O. Bowers led the pageantry, with Rockport tribe performing the onstage initiation before initiates from seven local tribes. Local courts at Richland City Newtonville Gentryville Grandview Eureka Chrisney and Rockport formed strong representation at the meeting.

Mrs. Mary Spayd Dies After Illness in Lincoln Street Home
Mrs. Mary Spayd wife of Michael Spayd died last Saturday November 26 after two weeks with heart trouble. Funeral held Tuesday at St Bernard's church conducted by Rev A J Sprigler. She was eighty years eleven months fifteen days old and survived by husband two sons Henry and three daughters Mrs S F Bosler Anna and Mrs Jacob Ailes. She married Michael Spayd in Cincinnati in 1848 and they moved to Spencer county then Rockport.
