Ong Couple United In Marriage Near Lamar
Last Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Huff near Lamar, Miss Mary, daughter of the Huffs, married Mr. Dorris Rue formerly of the city. Rev. Moore of the local Methodist Church performed the quiet home ceremony. Both are well known. the bride is a Rockport high school graduate who once lived here. Mr. Rue, now in Cincinnati, works in an oyster house and is also a Rockport graduate. The couple left for Cincinnati to reside.

Nut Growers Meet In Evansville Attends Convention

The gathering will run Thursday and Friday with orchard tours in the First district among the world’s largest groves. Eugene Ford eight year old of Metropolis Illinois is recovering after a dog attack in a neighbor’s yard. A local youth group enjoyed a picnic near Little Island on a sunny Sunday. Mrs Susan Young seventy died at her daughter’s home north of the city with services led by Rev A Halliwell. Burial followed at Sunset Hills cemetery.

Thomas Hagan aged 92 died last Sunday evening at the home of George Stuteville where he had resided in Grandview. Funeral services and interment were held Tuesday mourning. He was a veteran of Company F, 53d Indiana regiment.

Miraculous Escape during buggy runaway on Main Street
Four young women Miss Rose Schaub Margaret Kersteins and Carrie Kersteins escaped serious injury when a horse hitched to a buggy ran away on Main Street near Sixth. The driver Vogelsang lost control, the lines broke and the horse fled past Fifth Street where Margaret Kersteins jumped clear, Carrie Kersteins fell from the buggy, and Schaub stayed inside the buggy. All reports note only scratches and bruises, describing a remarkable escape.

Two Burglars Escape From County Jail
Charles Brown and Charles Davis of Kansas City escaped the county jail Monday night after being arrested for robbing C. W. Halbruge Company. Sheriff Kramer entered the jail to lock them in at 8:30 pm and the pair slipped past him in the corridor barefoot. Bloodhounds tracked them to Second Street and the river, but the trail was lost and they remained at large.
