Registration Law Change Opens In Person or Mail Options

New rules allow voters to register in person by messenger or by mail. The window runs from September 4 to October 4 with deadlines for registration during this period.

The law requires 50 voters per precinct to register and outlines registration hours from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on two days, September 5 and October 4, 1920. Voters may register in person or via an absent voter application sworn before a notary or two acquainted voters.

Saturday August 7 is the notification date for Gov. James M. Cox as Democratic presidential nominee with ceremonies in Dayton. Franklin D. Roosevelt will be notified of his nomination for vice president on Monday August 9 at Hyde Park New York.

Funeral Held for James H. Bartrim in Rockport Community

James H. Bartrim died after a life of devoted family service. He was born 1861 near Rockport and educated in Rockport and Evansville Commercial College. He married Olive E. Cromie in 1894. two children Cromie and Anna predeceased him. Burial was at Sunset Hill after a service led by Rev. J. H. Diehl.

Spencer County Teachers Institute Dates Set

State superintendent L. N. Hines announced the Spencer county teachers institute will run September 6 to 10. Other counties in the pocket list have varied dates including Warrick August 9 to 18 and Dubois September 3.

The Rockport All Stars defeated Pattonville 4 to 0 last Sunday. Schoenfeld and Wagner pitched, with Niles and Miller behind the plate. Schoenfeld fanned 10 batters while Niles struck out five.

William Parker obituary in Fairview service notes life

Funeral for William Parker held at Fairview conducted by Rev A B VConde. Born March 6 1837 in Hamilton County Ohio he died July 26 1920 at age 83 4 20. He moved to Spencer county in 1853 aged sixteen and had three marriages producing nine children and two living sons. He was a Christian from youth and a good neighbor leaving his wife six sons seventeen grandchildren and many friends.

Board of education discusses school start date and consolidation

The Spencer county board debated start dates for high schools with most trustees favoring September 20. The state education department will close district schools with 12 or fewer pupils to receive state aid, affecting several Spencer County schools. A Boonville district meeting planned for October at Lincoln Park invites the farmers group to join.

Ex Governor Hanley Killed in Ohio Crossing Crash

Ex governor J Frank Hanley of Indiana died last Sunday when his car collided with a Pennsylvania freight train at a rural crossing near Dennison Ohio. Dr and Mrs C M Baker of Kilgore Ohio also perished in the crash. all three victims suffered severe injuries and did not regain consciousness. The Baker car crossed the tracks in front of another train, the ex governor was buried in Williamsport Indiana after services in Indianapolis.

Rockport defeated the Tell City Grays two to one at the fair grand park. Tell City’s first batter homered, but Thompson’s transfers shut down further scoring as Rockport tallied two runs in the second inning and held on. It was a standout local game, marking Tell City’s second straight loss.

Aged woman Matilda Thom dies at 94 in Indiana

Mrs. Matilda C Thom widow of Robert C Thom died last Friday at her son T M Thom’s home in Franklin Indiana. She was 94 and survived by four sons Albert H Caldwell Kan T M Franklin Ind Rev Winfield R Chrisney and Oscar T Thom Medicine Lodge Kan. Funeral services were held Monday at the Presbyterian church in Dale with burial in Dale cemetery.
