Washington, D. C. The Sixty sixth Congress, in extra session since May 19, 1979, shows little progress on a constructive program. Republicans have dropped tariff and land bills, opposed universal military training, and ignored reclamation needs. Critics argue the party aims to adjourn early, cutting off key legislation and funding for irrigation, while planning junkets to gather material for action.
Oph Kennedy resigns from the North Side mail carrier post effective tomorrow April 3. Kennedy served since the delivery system began and was noted as clever and accommodating. William E. Brown named to fill vacancy. Brown previously assistant post master, served in France during WWI and discharged as a sergeant.
At the Methodist parsonage Monday evening Earl Hartley and Evelyn Greathouse married in a quiet ceremony conducted by Rev. A L Bennett. The bride is the Greathouse daughter and the groom a soldier. They plan to reside in Rock.
John C Beard died at his Grandview home last Saturday after a long illness. The funeral was Monday at 2:30 p m at the residence, conducted by Rev Geo A Mc Vaughton under the auspices of the I C O F Mgr. Beard was past 73 and survived by his wife and four sons. For years he served as Grandview postmaster.
Dr. O P Goldman has been appointed by the Treasury Department in Washington to furnish dental treatment to War Risk Insurance patients. One official is selected in each county nationwide for this duty.
Mrs Lucy Balderson fractured the small bone in her left elbow after a stool sank into soft ground while she stood in a yard on Elm Street Wednesday morning. She was knocked to the ground and sustained the fracture.
Circuit court listings show Emma Linley filing for divorce from William Linley with custody sought of their minor child. Numerous guardianships, estate settlements, and guardianship sales are noted, including land sale in Hodges case and tax appraisals. A jury found Jesse Woodward guilty of assault and battery with a $25 fine.
Edna VY Davis born near Chrisney Indiana December 1 1877 died April 23 1920 at her brother Charles G Daviss Rockport home aged 42 4 22. She married R E Medcalf February 16 1914 and had one child Mary Kathlene. She joined Rockport M E church March 2 1909 lived a Christian life despite paralysis. Survived by brother Charles G Davis and daughter Mary Kathlene. Funeral held at Daviss Main Street home conducted by Rev A L Bennett. Burial Sunset Hill.
The will of Henry C. Michel of Carter township probated. Executed April 9, 1917 and witnessed by Walter Huppert and Otto Geiss. Real estate to the widow for life, then to six children equally. Widow receives five hundred dollars. Personal property divided equally among six children. Son Jesse Michel named executor.
