Republican administration organs push back against Democratic charges focusing on omissions and commissions of the Harding era. Democratic leaders promise a constructive program and highlight reconstruction efforts and policy record as pivotal campaign issues.
The court house gathering had 28 scouts in attendance last Thursday with Robert Savage presiding. William Hall recited the oath. Otto Sherer received application papers. W H Brown spoke to the group. A weiner roast is planned for next Thursday and a new colored scout troupe with Arnold Stuart as scout master now has twelve members.
The Eastern Star Auxiliary gathered Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. O. P. Goldman’s residence. Assistant hostesses included Mesdames Lieb Payne Pattie Hearing Ray. Readings were by Mrs. Wilkinson and Miss Armstrong. Guests Mrs. Born of Indianapolis and Mrs. Bibbs of Lacrosse gave short talks. Pie and coffee were served.
The Ladies' Musicale will gather this Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Robert V. Miller for an organized social event.
The April social meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary was held Monday evening at the home of Mrs. W. E. Martin.

Mrs Elizabeth H Lacer age 63 died at home in Louisville Kentucky after five weeks of cancer. Funeral held Tuesday at the home with interment there. Survived by husband Dr Jacob A Lacer and son Dr Sherry Lacer, plus five brothers F A Kellams New Castle Indiana H L Evansville J C Sterling Kansas J S Lake Village Arkansas W W Louisville. Three sisters Mrs Kate Rundell Newton Kansas Mrs Francis Adams Aurora Indiana and Miss Martha Kellams Texarkana Arkansas.
Congressman William E. Wilson announces free garden and flower seed assortments for residents of the First Congressional district. Supplies are limited and distributed on a first come basis to those who write him while stocks last.
James A. Root, 85, Civil War veteran, died Tuesday at his city home. He leaves his wife and one brother. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Baptist church conducted by Rev. W. C. Parson with the G. A. R. in charge.
Miss Pet Enlow enjoyed a faster pace with Mr and Mrs A C Obrecht of Tell City.
Mrs. Elva Barrows of Tulsa Oklahoma visited on Monday to spend time with her mother Mrs Kathryn Kramer.
Local business leaders pledged funds and support for a riverbank tourist camp near Main Street if the city approves $250 for the project. Owensboro Chamber of Commerce will help improve routes from Rockport ferry to Kentucky highway while promoting the effort. Subscriptions include 500 to 600 shares. plans cover Main Elm Walnut street improvements with curb and gutter work to be scheduled. The group meets Thursday at the Hibbs cafe with J. C. Youngblood as chairman.
Mrs M Weiland and Mrs Louis Wiener hosted a Wednesday bridge afternoon for their club with special guest Mrs Isaac Born of Indianapolis. The rooms featured spring flowers as five tables hosted members and guests including Mrs Elva Barrows Tulsa Mrs Homer Weatherholt Owensboro Mrs Jessise H Bibbs Lacrosse Wis and Mrs Charles Nestor Boonville A salad course supplemented the games.
Jenkins Post of the American Legion announces a major district convention in Rockport on April 27 with over 1000 visitors expected. The event marks a significant honor for Rockport and the Jenkins Post.

A spring wedding last Monday morning united Esther Brown and Bernard F. Wohler at the home of Mr and Mrs John Brown. Charles W. Park died Saturday at his Black Oak Arkansas home after an illness of flux and complications. He was born in the city and is survived by his wife, three sons, one daughter Mae Park of Sherman Stock Co at the Grand Theatre Evansville, and siblings J S Park and Mrs E L Boyd. Funeral and burial were in Black Oak. Mrs Richard Bullock a city niece attended the funeral.
Miss Alice Mason hosted a dinner and dance last Saturday night in honor of her house guest Miss Caroline Porter of Crawford Nebraska. Attending were hostess Miss Mason, guest of honor Miss Porter, plus Misses Lucille Richards Jo Kellams Dorothy Ehrman Madge Allen Margaret Sargent Mary Guard Kellams Anne Mohr and several gentlemen including Hathaway Walker Houston Walker Ivan Miller Arnett Richards Clayton Hargis Fred Bosler William Stevenson Robert Kellams Charles Fay Paul Mason and John R Feigel JY. Mrs W C Mason and Mrs Jean Winn assisted with hospitality.
The literary club met Monday afternoon with Mrs Arch Stevenson. Short stories were discussed by Mrs James Rim stidt leader and Mesdames Louis Wilkinson Louis Wiener and J H Diehl. Mrs Isaac Born of Indianapolis and Mrs Olive Bartrim of Louisville honorary member were guests.
A fire last Saturday evening at the home of W. E. Martin on Elm Street caused slight damage. A large pile of paper was burned in the furnace and is believed to have started the blaze, which was found about six o'clock. The fire damaged only a hole burned in the roof and did not spread.
Joseph Obermeier of Harrison township was in the city last Monday on business at the court house. He left this week for Happy Texas. He spent several years in the Panhandle country.
Noah Spurlock, custodian of Lincoln Park, visited the city Thursday. He expects the park to look more beautiful with increased funds after the legislature boosted the annual appropriation to 2400 dollars.
