Dr. J. D. McKenney of Miami Florida writes to Mr. W. W. Kellams in Rockport Indiana about a county fund drive. He encloses a twenty five dollar check for the Spencer County Anti-Tuberculosis Society and urges others to contribute.
J. S. Burke has disposed of his office to Dr. E. F. Matejka and will relocate with Mrs. Burke to Des Moines Iowa. The couple were estimable residents who made many friends in Rockport and are missed as they depart.
Mrs. Charles Salm traveled to West Baden Tuesday after a telegram from Mrs. J. M. Daniel about the serious condition of Rev. Daniel, who had been ill for some time. A Thursday letter from Mrs. Salm says he is no better.
Court convenes next Monday with two damage suits slated for the docket. Local filings include action for property damage and related claims filed in the county court.

Administratrix Bertha Tableman appointed for Ellsworth Maier estate. Jurors drawn for circuit term starting April 5 with a six week docket. Ollie Miller seeks divorce from George Miller filed in February 2019 with custody of name. Vina Hullett et al. sue to cancel deed to 86 acres in Hammond township alleging undue influence and fraud. Emma L Feigel sues Evansville and Ohio Valley Railway for 3000 for injuries from a 1919 collision. Roscoe Hill sues Southern Railway for 300 damages from house fire caused by ignition along right of way in 1918. Guardian petition for Joseph Roth’s alleged insanity filed.
The Rockport post office, housed for fifty years, is sold to Rockport Water Works Co. and will be moved into the Lieb building at Third and Main. Lieb leases space from his building for the post office and will install new fixtures. Removals are scheduled for mid summer and will trigger other building changes.
Declarations of candidacy filed since the last report list Democrats seeking office including Perry and Spencer for Joint Representative, Louis J. Fournier for County Surveyor, Roy Raihley for Prosecuting Attorney, Curtis Goble and J. Floyd Cods for Recorder, Joan R. Rasor for Coroner, John A. Olsch for Precinct Committee, Warne Township and Luce County terms with T. W. Ferguson also named.
Recorder Harvey China and Walter G. Ayer serve as Clerk with James Adams as Committeeman. Marion Medcalf Dale Seward Daw son Hammond Wm Lottes Paul Ringeman Harrison David Walters John Hilderbrand Luce Harvey Parker Ohio Charles Porter Joshua Burkhart Clay Ottis Geiss Carter Dick Hopkins Huff named among concerned parties.
Spencer county hosts an Inter-church World Movement meeting at Trinity M. E. Church next Tuesday the 6th with sessions at 10 30 a m 3 00 p m and 7 30 p m Five workers from the state organization including one woman and four men will lead the work A stereopticon will be shown at the evening session Group meetings are set from 1 30 to 3 00 p m The five visitors will be entertained in the city by a committee appointed by the churches
Twenty five Knights of Pythias from this county chartered the Elk lodge last Wednesday and traveled to Tell City. Two candidates were initiated with J. F. Bauman of Rockport lodge playing a key role. Ex Mayor Fred Heinzle gave the welcome address, echoed by Senator W. A. McCullough for Spencer County Knights, and a banquet followed the ceremony.
Owensboro High School defeated Rockport scouts 15 to 10 in Friday night action. The office will be staffed 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. starting now for school communications. Tuesday physics class toured the electric light plant straw board and ice factory to study practical science.
A devastating blaze struck the main business block of Chrisney. Fire officials report damages exceeding 45 008 dollars with partial insurance compensation, leaving several shops heavily damaged and under evaluation for reconstruction.
A Sunday night blaze in Chrisney destroyed about a quarter of the town's best business block on Main Street, with estimated losses around 45,000 dollars. The fire originated in the basement of E. R. Cutler’s restaurant and spread rapidly in gale force west winds, damaging the Chrisney Doyle General Store and Jones dry goods, while Rev. Magee’s hotel was saved by volunteer firemen. Insurance covered about half the losses. rebuilding is planned.
Young baseball enthusiasts met last Sunday at the Basham barber shop to organize for the season. James Poole was elected manager and Clayton Hargis secretary and treasurer as the team aims to become a top amateur squad in the region. The diamond will be at Rockport fair ground with the first try-out next Sunday afternoon.
The Rockport fair ground management employs workers to grade repair and improve the grounds and build many new stalls. Plans include beautifying the area with a small lake to the northeast of the grand stand near the east entrance. The annual fair is scheduled for August 25 to 28.
