Mrs Merzaret Ellen Root widow of Daniel Stoot died suddenly at her Seawright Springs home at 2:30 PM after apoplexy felt earlier in the day. Aged 74, she was a daughter of Phillip and Weber Hizer and a longtime Salem Lutheran Church member. Surviving children are L. W. Root of Seawright Springs and Mrs Margaret Wilt of Indiana. funeral arrangements pending word from a daughter in the West.
Twenty eight passengers, including three women, were rescued from the drifting steamer Atlanta before dawn. The vessel was brought to Baltimore by the Old Bay line steamer Virginia after being hidden from other ships. Crews remained with the Atlanta while passengers were transferred by small boat.

She was about 65 and had been gradually failing. her husband passed away twenty years ago. Survived by sons George and Luther and daughter Mrs Trobaugh of Keezletown.
Albert M. Thacker and Miss Lessie V. Showalter married yesterday at 10 o'clock in Dayton with Rev. Jos M. Kagey officiating at the bride’s home. Attendants were the groom’s siblings Byrd Thacker and Cammie Thacker. The couple hosted a wedding dinner at Ottobine after the ceremony and plan to reside at Sunnyslope Farm after January 1.

Four year old Carl Messick suffered severe burns on his abdomen chest and arms after lighting matches and catching fire in his West Market Street home. His mother quickly smothered the flames with a rug. the boy was treated at Rockingham Memorial Hospital with his older brother and a baker aiding in removing clothing. The father is ill. the child Is expected to recover without fatal complications.
