50th Anniversary of Boon Christian School Noted at Doon

Doon Doon Christian School marked its 50th anniversary with ceremonies at the Christian Reformed church. The program featured devotions, readings, letters from former teachers, performances by Harmony Workers and Rhythm Band, a main address by Rev. Jon Enghers, and historical sketches by Dick Van Engen. The school has about 66 students, 52 teachers over time, and a history of fundraising and English records since the 1940s.

No Beans To Be Sold in Harvest

John B. Draager announces that 1966 crop soybeans acquired under price support will not be offered for general sale at least during harvest. Small quantities may be sold to prevent deterioration. About 7.6 million bushels were delivered to CCC with loans repaid, and 6.11 million bushels stored in warehouses. Farmers with 1986 soybeans may request reseal through September 30 and reduce storage payments.

Thunder's Rocket Dominates State Fairs In Two Week Run

Thunder's Rocket owned by Pes Vander Velde and Joni Harmelink led a two week streak at state fairs. At Town state fair it won first heat and placed second in the next. Watke Rites Held In Rock Valley for Barney Watke

Funeral services were held Monday at 2p.m. at Porter Funeral Home Rock Valley for Barney Watke 18 who died Friday at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital after a period of illness. Rev. Raymond Roloff officiated with burial in Alvord Lutheran cemetery. Survivors include three daughters Mrs John Hamam and Mrs Eduard Gramstedt and Mrs Lars Engman two sons Elmer and Louis seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Rock Valley School Board Directors Race Sees Three Run

Three men compete for two three year seats on the Rock Valley Community School Board this fall. George H. Van Beek runs unopposed for District One where he presides as board president and is finishing his first term. Harry Buna and Sam Van Abbenia vie for District Two, the area south of Hoth Street, to replace Paul Beurer who resigned to join the armed forces.
