Rock Valley voters approve a new city police and fire center with 341 for and 139 against among 482 ballots. Bonds of $100 000 are authorized and federal revenue sharing will fund most costs. Construction begins January 1 at Thirteenth and Main after site possession.
Rock Valley City Council moved to renew its 25 year IPS franchise for five years, citing desire to avoid long term commitments. IPS officials said they prefer a 15 year term and the Sept. 28 meeting sets final terms. IPS has supplied electricity since the 1920s and gas since 1954 with 16 local employees.
Shoppers in Rock Valley will find the biggest values this year as the Chasy Dove Promotion launches Friday. Sidewalk sales offer up to 60 percent reductions on items and encourage early and all day browsing across local stores.
Voters in the Rock Valle Community School District go to the polls Tuesday September 11 at the Old Town Hall from 7 AM to 9 PM. Two board seats are up for three year terms. George Van Heeky faces Stanley Negaard for the south of Highway 18 seat. Warren Abdenon runs unopposed for the other vacancy representing Rocky Valley south of Fifteenth Street.
