A large Halloween prank spree by hundreds of youths damaged Rock Valley property after dusk. They toppled furniture and moved objects across streets, shattered screens, and caused widespread debris. Police intervened, deterring further destruction. no injuries were reported as Rock Valley endures the incident and looks to recover.
Albert Wiggare delivered a forceful, instructive lecture on Friday. The illustrated stories and wit held attention throughout, drawing a well filled house, with many in Rock Valley who would benefit from attending future talks.
Miss Anna Foppe and James Hogan wed at St Marys church in a morning ceremony presided by Rev G Reilly. A reception followed at the bride’s home with about fifty guests. The couple planned a honeymoon trip through Canter and Sioux Falls before settling in Rock Valley.
Tiisse W. Ruisch died at his son Willem’s home north of Rock Valley on Monday Get. 99 after about four weeks illness. Born August 16, 1924 in Friesland Netherlands he was 85 years 2 months and 14 days old. He lived near Allon for years, was a Reformed Church member and well regarded. Ten children were born to his marriage, seven survived. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. at the Lutheran church in Alverd, conducted by Rev J. DeJough, with many friends from Rock Valley in attendance.
The Christan Reformed church is completed with windows seats and furniture in place. The dedicatory services are set for Thursday November 11. A splendid program has been arranged with ministers from Orange City Sioux Center Hull Doon Lebanon VanDerloek Carnes Timmerman Vouttman Middleburg P VanWyk Keton P VanWyk Sioux Center Sheldon and more attending in Rock Valley.
Sioux County Auditor TePaske announces 126 licenses issued in first 26 days of October, totaling 268 for the county. The license fee is one dollar, with revenue expected statewide while counties cover postage and local work. A new Sioux County library will move to the courthouse in Orange City for the benefit of local lawyers. Rumors of a Doon branch railroad line through Rock Valley to Hawarden are unfounded. Hawarden Independent notes the road likely will be built along different lines.
Three Lree agents were arrested in LeMars on peddling without a license charges after farmers from central Plymouth County reported goods delivered from afar. About fifty farmers met, rejected the goods as misrepresented, and resolved to withhold payment while seeking arrest of the agents. Bonds were set at $230. Deputy State Game Warden John Kuhl warned near by towns of strict enforcement of hunting license rules with fines from 25 to 50 dollars for unlicensed hunting.
In regular session November 3 1909 the Rock Valley town council adopted Resolution No 26 authorizing a cement sidewalk not less than five feet wide along the front of Lot 2 in the N W G of the S E I Section 20 Township 97 Range 40 fronting Third Street. Property owners to be served. if not built within 30 days the street commissioner or others appointed will construct and assess costs to the lot owner, to be collected by Sioux County treasurer with county taxes. Adopted November 8 1909.
