The Story of the Poppy in War Memorial Lore
In France and Belgium the poppy appears after devastation as a symbol of sacrifice. The piece notes how the United States entered the war, men died serving, and in Flanders Field poppies bloom among crosses. Colonel McCrae’s poem WE SHALL NOT SLEEP is cited to emphasize remembrance. The American Legion ties the poppy to memorial faith and service.
