Gold Star Highway Tributes planned by Des Moines group
Mrs. Lou McHenry of Des Moines, mother of wartime casualty Captain H McHenry, is named Saint chairman of the Gold Star Highway Tribute association. The drive, backed by the National Society 1917 World War Registrars, aims to mark a state highway with trees or cement pillars bearing gold stars and the names of those who died in World War I. Frank Ellis, an amateur archeologist, and his 14 year old son Francis report discoveries near Maquoketa including a human skeleton, arrowheads, flint tools, stone weapons and pottery in caves and under stones.
