District Court News of Sioux County Clerk Actions

Sioux County district court entries include Nick Weyer of Hawarden pleading guilty to maintaining a liquor nuisance with a 300 dollar fine and three months jail suspended pending payment. Also approved are bank reports, estate actions, guardianships, executors named, pensions granted, and probate notices filed or continued.

A probate summons dated May 19, 1936 was issued as DB Bates, receiver of Exchange Bank of Granville, fled a suit against Mary Colling on two notes seeking 3624.60 and costs. Schouten of Rock Valley filed nomination papers for supervisor from the Fifth District on the Republican ticket. Moss of Hull, the present supervisor, seeks re-election on the Republican ticket. Bert Vander Stouwe, also of Hull, filed papers for this office on the Republican ticket.

Agnes De Young moved to Rock Rapids and the Blues lost in the Good English Contest. The Reds were entertained with a weiner roast last Wednesday afternoon, and all enjoyed themselves. Redshall agreed they were well entertained.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Classes Attend Picnic

Seventh grade English class and Miss Eileen MccNa mara enjoyed a picnic in the woods Thursday after noon as a reward for the Good English Con test won by the Blues. Harold Bonthuis of Hinton visited seventh grade classes Friday afternoon. Gertrude Reitsma, formerly of rural school No. 3, Plaza township, enrolled in seventh grade Monday. The eighth grade literature class studies A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare. The seventh grade studies As You Like It by Charles and Mary Lamb.

Peculiar Accident Injures Farmer With Colts

Francis Prendergast of Laurens Pocahontas county demonstrated a team of colts to a prospective buyer when the young horses grew excited and turned on him pinning him against a building with the wagon tongue. He sustained internal injuries.

Bird at Swalm Drug Store Delights Chelsea Visitors

A pet crow named Jimmy entertains customers at Swalm Drug Store in Chelsea Tama Iowa. The bird, rescued about three years ago, speaks several words, laughs loudly, hoots, fishes peanuts from a bottle, plays catch, imitates sounds, and even removes bottle tops, much to the store’s amusement and occasional nuisance.

Entertaining Contest by Traer Auto Dealers Turns Heads

Entertaining contest by Henke and Pleen of Traer drew 150 to 200 spectators as they guessed how long an eight hundred car motor would run with throttle wide open. The engine started at 1 pm and stopped at 2 05 pm amid heat and crowd anticipation. Guesses ranged from minutes to 24 hours with several dramatic near-starts.

Rescue Colt in River by Five Helpers at Spencer Iowa

Dr A P Jesperson and five companions paddled through Little Sioux River near Spencer to free a drowning colt entangled in submerged wire. After a tough crossing they reached the colt and, after cutting the wire, brought it to shore.

Wounds Healed Across Old Wounds at Dubuque

In Dubuque Iowa a gathering of former World War I allies from the Allied and Central Entente factions brought together veterans aged eighteen years past. Organized by the Dubuque American Legion post the reunion fostered good fellowship and a sense that time heals many wounds.
