Sioux County district court entries include Nick Weyer of Hawarden pleading guilty to maintaining a liquor nuisance with a 300 dollar fine and three months jail suspended pending payment. Also approved are bank reports, estate actions, guardianships, executors named, pensions granted, and probate notices filed or continued.
A probate summons dated May 19, 1936 was issued as DB Bates, receiver of Exchange Bank of Granville, fled a suit against Mary Colling on two notes seeking 3624.60 and costs. Fredrika Lutjens as executrix of John H. Lutjens estate filed final report approved and estate closed. Licenses issued to August Jonker 28 and Fanny Harmelick 26 both Orange City. Alvin J. Scherff 29 Worthington Minn and Emma A. Dykstra 23 Orange City. Co L Post 65 and Erie Damstra 61, both Orange City.
Schouten of Rock Valley filed nomination papers for supervisor from the Fifth District on the Republican ticket. Moss of Hull, the present supervisor, seeks re-election on the Republican ticket. Bert Vander Stouwe, also of Hull, filed papers for this office on the Republican ticket.
The First Reformed Church schedules morning worship at 9 30 with Den Schepper en Zijn Schepping and afternoon worship at 2 with The Fathers Care. Sunday school after the afternoon service, 745 Young People's Meeting, and Holy Baptism administration next Sunday. Rev J H Keuning of Sioux Center will speak at the Men's League next Tuesday evening.

Jack Frembgen celebrated his seventh birthday with a large candy gift.
Third grade welcomed Jennie Reitsma with Shirley De Young moving to Rock Rapids. In arithmetic, Bernard Wissink Anna Vande Velde Margaret Bastemeyer and Helen Vander Berg earned excellent ratings. Perfect spelling papers were written by Catherine Achatz Margaret Bastemeyer Johanna Van Holl Martin Ver Mulm Bertha Ver Wey and Helen Vander Berg. Attendance fell due to illness.
Agnes De Young moved to Rock Rapids and the Blues lost in the Good English Contest. The Reds were entertained with a weiner roast last Wednesday afternoon, and all enjoyed themselves. Redshall agreed they were well entertained.
Seventh grade English class and Miss Eileen MccNa mara enjoyed a picnic in the woods Thursday after noon as a reward for the Good English Con test won by the Blues. Harold Bonthuis of Hinton visited seventh grade classes Friday afternoon. Gertrude Reitsma, formerly of rural school No. 3, Plaza township, enrolled in seventh grade Monday. The eighth grade literature class studies A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare. The seventh grade studies As You Like It by Charles and Mary Lamb.

Also noted is the baseball team’s loss to Hospers 7 to 6 ending their bid to represent Sioux County at the District tournament. Hospers pitchers Jarman Scholler Kersten compiled 9 strikeouts. Rock Valley’s Gran Atkins and Gray faced 12 strikeouts and 6 hits. A costly second inning error favored Hospers, costing Rock Valley the game.
The Methodist Church lists 10:00 Sunday school, 11:00 morning worship with Tre and False Modernism, 7:00 Epworth League, 8:00 evening worship with Ignorance, N. H. Franz to play a French horn solo. Regular monthly budget Sunday is next Sabbath. Official Board meeting at Parsonage Thursday May 7 at 8. Attendance urged.
Francis Prendergast of Laurens Pocahontas county demonstrated a team of colts to a prospective buyer when the young horses grew excited and turned on him pinning him against a building with the wagon tongue. He sustained internal injuries.
Prank Hevern bought a new six cylinder Overland from Central Garage. Major Suter of Ireton, aged ninety six, visits town and reflects on Civil War days. A stranger named Ramsey was jailed thirty days for vagrancy, escorted to Orange City for serving. John Doherty and Mat Walpole traveled to Rochester to see a hospital patient. Frank McGill home from Iowa State University on vacation. Will Tripp back in Madison after a stay with relatives. Rev. W. P. Webb to Spirit Lake for a land meeting. W. A Smith home from Canby for farm interests near Canby. Olay McKeegan at Iowa State College home for spring vacation. Mr. Griggs of Spencer visited Rock Valley. Mrs. Baysinger of Morris return from week with relatives. Mrs. John Vanier More and daughter depart Geneseo Illinois after weeks in Rock Valley. Hotel Warren served sixty two for Sunday dinner. Pred Relander and family share in Warren lodging and meals.
John Rix retires after 30 years on Arcadia Tows school board, first elected in 1906. He is the only living member of the 1968 board and has served as president for the past 21 years.
Notice to all families receiving or who have had relief from the County Welfare Bureau. They must plant a garden. failure to do so will result in withholding relief. A pet crow named Jimmy entertains customers at Swalm Drug Store in Chelsea Tama Iowa. The bird, rescued about three years ago, speaks several words, laughs loudly, hoots, fishes peanuts from a bottle, plays catch, imitates sounds, and even removes bottle tops, much to the store’s amusement and occasional nuisance.
The watch is an American Waltham from an early make that winds with a key. It has been in the Hall family for 72 years and was passed from father to son. Despite its age it remains a readable time-keeper, though its size is now an objection.
Entertaining contest by Henke and Pleen of Traer drew 150 to 200 spectators as they guessed how long an eight hundred car motor would run with throttle wide open. The engine started at 1 pm and stopped at 2 05 pm amid heat and crowd anticipation. Guesses ranged from minutes to 24 hours with several dramatic near-starts.
Mrs. H. S. Nicol and Miss Iris Macumber of H. D. A. host a 12:30 luncheon at the Nicol home in Orange City on Saturday May 2 in honor of Mrs. Jesse S. Kort new District Chairman of Rock Rapids. Township chairmen of Sioux county will attend. guests include Mrs Louis Elberts and Mrs C H L Smith of Sioux township, Mrs Fda Miller of Rock township, and Mrs Oscar Miller of Garfield with other rural ladies listed.
Dr A P Jesperson and five companions paddled through Little Sioux River near Spencer to free a drowning colt entangled in submerged wire. After a tough crossing they reached the colt and, after cutting the wire, brought it to shore.
In Dubuque Iowa a gathering of former World War I allies from the Allied and Central Entente factions brought together veterans aged eighteen years past. Organized by the Dubuque American Legion post the reunion fostered good fellowship and a sense that time heals many wounds.
