Why Not A Municipal Water Softener Plant
The March issue of the Iowa American Municipalities describes a successful inexpensive plant installed at Onawa to treat hard water. It uses an aerator settling and filtration bed with 350 gallons per minute capacity. For rocks with hardness from time, a zeolite treatment is used. The Rock Valley water requires lime, soda ash, and iron sulfate. such chemistry makes the water undrinkable, so zeolite is preferred. Estimated cost is 11.25 per million gallons. Dr. Koyle provides the Rock Valley water analysis showing calcium and magnesium salts and related solids.
