The Rock Valley school board met and re elected the high school and grade teachers at current salaries. Supt Don May was re elected at a week earlier meeting. Miss Orpha J Hoganson of Algona Iowa was elected music supervisor and commerce. She now teaches in Nebraska. The school year was considered very successful and among the best.

State Highway Commissioner H E Dean Suffers Stroke
H E Dean of Ocheyedan Iowa a member of the state highway commission suffered a stroke of paralysis last week at his son Forrest Deans home near Ocheyedan He drove from Spencer after a late call but collapsed in the yard and crawled to the house He remained unconscious through the night and part of the next day but later regained consciousness and showed improvement A specialist from Iowa City was summoned and offered encouragement for his recovery.

The Tuesday Bridge Club met at Mrs Ruth Blessing s for a 1 50 luncheon and bridge. Part of the afternoon featured a ride in the new Milwaukee railroad parlor coach from Hull to Rock Valley. Relatives and friends gathered at Mr and Mrs John Vander Weerd s Rock Valley home Tuesday evening for their 4th wedding anniversary. Guests brought a wedding dinner and pleasant time followed.

Vernon Bailey of the Biological Survey recalls how wildlife declined since he first viewed the region from a covered wagon 60 years ago. He reports remaining deer and beavers, common muskrats and minks, otter, skunk, raccoon, red and gray fox, and likely loss of black bear.
