Famous Fort Churchill and the Pony Express Link in Nevada History

Fort Churchill on the Carson River became a key military post protecting early Nevada settlements. From 1860 to 1866, U.S. forces and California volunteers fought Modoc and Paiute resistance, then guarded Pony Express routes. The fort’s presence helped secure Nevada’s development and the Pony Express mail later ceased.
