Wheat to be sent into drought area

Spring Music Festival Promotes School Talent Night

On Wednesday evening March 23 Rock Valley high school music organizations, led by Miss Ruby McAfee, present a joint program featuring the girls trio, boys quartet, glee clubs, and soloists. Judges Mrs. Shannon Mrs. Berker and Ab Bogart select voices and small groups to represent Rock Valley at Hawarden Sub-District meet April 1-2. A small admission of 10 or 25 cents helps defray transport costs. attendance boosts school support and chances to win.

School election results at Peace Lutheran Rock Valley

In Rock Valley last Monday afternoon the annual school election reported total 57 votes. T. McGill received 86 votes, Roelots 1 vote for three year director terms starting March 20. A. M. Graf was elected treasurer for two years as pastor I. S. Large received 1180 votes for the post.

Social Events In Rock Valley and Vicinity

Local social clubs and groups held meetings and suppers in Rock Valley and surrounding townships. Women groups hosted luncheons and dinners, with proceeds and remarks on health and home management. Notable gatherings included the Rebekah Lodge regular meeting, M E Ladies Aid supper, Wa Tan Ye luncheon, School Masters Club dinner, Literary Circle discussions, 4 H Sunshine Club, Camp Fire program, and Home Sanitation and Safety session with H D A.

Old Van Buren landmark destroyed by fire

A 65 year old house built by pioneer Michael Tobias on the Des Moines river north side between Douds and Kilbourne was consumed by fire. Most furniture was saved but the building was not saved, ending its long admired status as a local architectural masterpiece.

Norbeck bill authorizes wheat distribution to farmers and needy

President Hoover signed the Norbeck measure authorizing 10,600,000 bushels of farm bread wheat for stricken districts and the unemployed nationwide with Red Cross distribution. Some wheat may be milled or baked in cities over 100,000. A 5,000,000 bushel allocation is aimed at the drought area of the South Oak region.
