Hope Haven Board Reviews Latest Fund Drive Results

Hope Haven board members met to assess the fund drive amid a 343000 goal by March 1 to sustain services for 52 staff and 106 children facing a two week suspension. Only about 51943.24 had been raised, with church offerings expected to boost totals. a Des Moines Register report cited 165000 in drive income. The trustees approved continuing services on benevolent gifts and ordered a results assessment to explore future opportunities, while a society group urged resignations for four top administrators including executive director Erv Voogh.

Water Project Bid Letting Scheduled for March 23

City expects bids to be opened March 23 at a special council session for a 713000 water system upgrade funded by an Economic Development Administration grant. The plan includes a 250000 gallon water tower a new city well water mains valves and hydrants with deductive alternates to adjust total cost contractor interest high with ten to fifteen bidders anticipated.

Three local businessmen John Dirksen Jim Dirksen and Wes Engbers purchased Bee Hive Variety from the Jansma family effective immediately. The store at 1447 Main will be renamed D and E Variety with a grand opening planned soon. The sale followed a store inventory closure Monday.

Day Of Prayer Observance Friday At St Marys Church

Five local churches sponsor World Day of Prayer on Friday March 2 at 1 30 p m at St Marys Catholic Church open to all. Les and Linda Norgaard of George perform original and recorded songs with albums for sale. A community choir directed by Anna Marie Van Beck sings two numbers Ivory Palaces and When I Kneel Down To Pray. An offering and refreshments follow. Mary McGill hosts. Health Group Weighs Rock Valley Proposals

The northwest Subarea Advisory Council of the Iowa Health Systems Agency will meet March 9 1977 at the Cherokee Community Center to review two facility acquisitions. St Vincent Hospital by Sisters of Mercy Health Corporation at 10.8 million and Valley Manor nursing facility by Hegg Memorial Hospital at 900 thousand. The meeting will also review six of the plan’s fifteen major parts for the 91 county area.
