The Hock Valley Bee based in Rock Valley Iowa announces its entry in the local post office registry as a second class mail publication. Editor is Alg Balstead and rates for one year are listed in the notice.
The town license plates will cost 8.73 cents each for 550,000 tags, awarded to the Agd ams Stamp and Stationery Co of St. Louis after delays and price concerns. The report also notes Richard Quyer of Cherokee discovering a dried plant yields shrinkage, and highlights May enlistments, naval cadet and Marine recruiting, car thefts in Des Moines and Chicago area theft recoveries, plus a reference to ongoing World’s Fair coverage and international travel by a Browktay associate.
State game wardens report a stern effort with three deputies patrolling the Des Moines river and actions from Fort Dodge to Keokuk. Fifteen prosecutions, 60 dish traps freed, 60 wire traps and 11 frog sites seized, plus multiple nets and traps confiscated amid illegal hunting and fishing cases. A local reminiscence recounts John Brown’s letter read by Tatar a friend of Brown. J T Reed of Shenandoah owns the letter and is a John Brown cousin, with J P Keenan on the maternal side also related. Keenan possesses a gun once belonging to Brown, described as a muzzleloader double barrel inlaid with metal from Trading Post Kansas. A train from Des Moines to Washington halted at Harpers Ferry where Brown was hanged and a wreath placed on the monument along the railroad right of way.

Notice announces that on June 18 1923 in Lyon County Iowa the estate of Thomas Kootun late of Iowa is indebted and will require payment. Claims against the estate must be presented legally authenticated for allowance. Dated June 7 1923. Somas Cullinan administrative agent and attorney.
