The Sioux County Youth Fair runs five days starting August 5 featuring cooking schools and demonstrations. Miss Bonita Bohnsack will demo beef pork and lamb cuts and prep. Dorothy Rodman covers using the GE Versatronic Range from freezer foods. Door prizes awarded for event registrants. Also refunds issued by Sioux Electric Cooperative for 1959 to eligible members at the fairgrounds.

An army worm infestation has hit four states Iowa South Dakota Minnesota and Nebraska with major damage to small grains. Entomologist Dr Harrold Gunderson reports worm counts up to 50 per square foot across fields and pastures. The invasion prompts farmers to use crop dusting planes and pesticides to protect oats alfalfa clover and beans as the lifecycle continues with rapid spread and uncertain outcome.

Immigrating to the United States in 1950 he pursued theology at Augsburg College and Luther Theological Seminary, was ordained in 1961, and served Peace Lutheran and Our Savior's Lutheran in Rock Valley. He sits on Latvians in America groups, the Iowa district committee of the American Lutheran Church, and favors cultural balance with athletics.
