Henry Hosch of near Sheldon Iowa has spent 25 years collecting and transplanting evergreen trees across his farm. His displays include about 150 evergreens around the house in five varieties Norway spruce white spruce Colorado blue spruce Scots pine and Black Hills spruce. Hosch praises the Black Hills spruce for hardiness and beauty.
Orange City launches a plant tulips ecampaign inviting residents to order bulbs in quantities of 500 or more and plant them throughout their areas to beautify the community.
The ela group of 26 members orders 15,006 bulbs in total from 500 to 1,000 bulbs per member. The bulbs will be shipped in one August shipment packed in Holland. Prices expected to be reasonable due to bulk size, promising a garden of tulips for Orange City.
Mrs. M J Leinen reported a wedding ring lost 34 years ago on a fann near Sibley Iowa during play by one of the Leinen children. Workmen digging a cellar on the Leviens’ former farm discovered a gold band with readable initials, matching the lost ring. The two Leinen families are not related.

Waverly Iowa street superintendent Carl Shaffer spotted a quail nest with 17 eggs near the business district. Days later he found only empty shells and no sign of the birds, suggesting the hatchlings already left for new homes nearby.
Clark Jenis of Audubon, Iowa yawns deeply and cannot close his mouth. He is taken to a Carrell hospital where doctors reset his jaw. The injury results from a severe yawning incident, not lockjaw, and healing proceeds with treatment.
Mrs. Mary A. Allen of near Knockville Iowa notes a plum tree bearing a strange fruit that forms four pairs on one limb and three pairs on another. The entire tree is loaded with plums growing in matched pairs, a phenomenon not seen before on this tree.
Shery, a farmer near Grundy Center, installs a six row rotary plow at his farm and cultivates 85 acres of corn and 49 acres of soybeans between showers. The job takes 10 1/2 hours and uses fuel totaling 1934 miles. At 1.63 per acre, Sperry’s acre farm estimates that two team and single row cultivators would have taken three weeks to till 125 acres of corn and beans.
Ray Hoth of Waverly received a robber letter mailed from Epsom New Zealand. A dime fell from the envelope and a slip of paper read the Prosperity Club. The chain appears to have spread far beyond its origin with the return address "Per Makura."
Mrs. Krank Va Horn of Tama Iowa preserves relics including a linen towel handed from her great grandmother embroidered with the phrase The independence of the U S of America declared July 4 1776 Washington elected president of the Federal Union March 1789. The item about 75 years old. Also a printed Washington portrait and an 1876 silver trade dollar.
