Pulpit Linked to Pella Colony Founding in Iowa
An Iowa historic building houses the pulpit used by Dominic Sabon for a Holland sermon in July 1846 that spurred emigrants to form a colony at Pella. Three shiploads left Rotterdam and Amsterdam, bound for America, with Rev Scholte foretelling brighter prospects. The Pella colony was established in 1848, and Scholte was grandfather to Gerald B Nollen and Henry Nollen, presidents of Bankers Life and Equitable of Iowa.
