Superintendent Nick Hulst and Rock Valley School Board Chair George Van Beek signed 1.1 million in bonds at Springsted in St Paul. Bonds, approved by voters on April 28, were sold June 4. high bids saved taxpayers about 75,000. Proceeds fund construction of new junior and senior high schools, with funds invested in U.S. government securities until costs arise.

Kragt Named President of National Flying Dentists Association
Dr Preston R Kragt of Rock Valley was installed as president of the National Flying Dentists Association at Seattle annual meeting. The group, dentists who are private pilots, promotes dentistry excellence and missionary service. Kragt, a former Rock Valley High School graduate and University of Iowa dentistry alumnus, lives in Sleepy Eye Minnesota with his wife and three children.

Sandy Hollow near Sioux Center hosted a 4-H Junior Camp Day on July 7 with over 140 fourth to sixth graders from across the county. Gary Siedensteiner noted the event organized by the 1971 Conmy 4-H Council included crafts, obstacle courses, recreations, buddy burners, and a talk by Gene Newell on conservation.
