Reward Paid for Sheldon Station Robbery Case
A $50 reward was paid to E. G. Vander Hamm owner of a Sheldon service station by the Service Bureau of Wallaces Partner and Iowa Dome stead in the Vander Hamm breaking and entering case. William Shriver received a 15 year sentence to Fort Madison penitentiary. Shriver and Carl Robinson began crimes at Villisea Iowa by stealing a car and then burglarizing filling stations as they traveled toward Worthington Minnesota. Police radio broadcasts led to their arrest in Worthington while they slept in the stolen car. Shriver was convicted for the Vander Hamm robbery while Robinson faced the car theft charge in Villisea.

Auxiliary Legion Picnic Brings Large Local Attendance
The annual Auxiliary and Legion picnic at the local park drew many members and their families. A big picnic supper featured salt cods and other dishes, with ice cream donated by the Legionaires, making the event a successful community gathering.

Popular Sandpit Pool Attracts Town During Summer
The sandpit north of town is a popular summer spot with a shallow area for non swimmers. A cable across the deeper section will be set, Ed Aless supplies it, and a fence will be built for safety. Bob Thornburg will supervise as lifeguard during certain hours. The pool offers deep water suitable for skilled swimmers, possibly twenty feet or more.

Slike Baatz arrived home Wednesday from Aurora Illinois where he was called about three weeks earlier by the death of the former friend P V Klein. Klein lived in Rock Valley for years, ran a repair and ante business, and moved from Aurora about twenty five years ago. He visited here several times since and was here last fall visiting friends.

Misses Elizabeth and Evelyn Landschulte left Saturday for LeMars to join Mr. and Mrs. L C Landschulte for a Western tour into California.
