Rainfall Report Shows June Drought Against Normal Levels
The local observer records 2.02 inches of rain in June, with 1.19 inches on June 16, improving over last year’s 0.88 inches. Normal June is 4.75 inches, leaving the month 2.73 inches below normal, and year to date moisture at 11.91 inches, 2.09 inches behind the norm.
Child Injured Seriously in Bus Bicycle Crash
Eleven year old Tom Van Dis sustained multiple injuries Friday when a Hope Haven panel bus struck his bicycle at the intersection of 17th Street and 20th Avenue. He was carried about 70 feet and treated at Hegg Memorial hospital before transfer to McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls. his condition was described as responding to parents' care. Dennis Gene Pookes, the bus driver, was eastbound on 17th Street. The incident occurred about 8:45 a.m. on July 1 as reported by local officials.

Supervisors Plan Road Grading Blacktop New Bridge Near Here
Sioux County Supervisors accepted bids for asphalt surfacing near Boyden and for road widening and grading. Hugo Schulz Inc won 83 878 for the Boyden project while Dan Ostermann Inc led 91 787 for the county grading package. Other bidders and a bridge replacement seven miles west of Rock Valley are noted with plans to start work soon.
