Rock Valley wrestlers aim for success at the Hawarden sectional meet on February 1. Larry Van Berkum is the new Town Marshall, chosen by the town council from applicants. He is a WWII veteran and carpenter, married to Mrs Van Berkum, with two children Ronnie and Carol.
Rock Valley grapplers under Coach Negaard head to the Hawarden sectional with finals set for Tuesday night. Preliminary rounds start Monday at 6:00 pm with semifinals that evening. District finals follow Feb 8-9 at Audubon as Rocket entrants include Kuiper Vander Velde Flanagen Landevent McParland Vink Van Berkur De Bey and Groenaweg or Hoefakker. teams entered include George West Sioux Moville Grove and Odebolt Arthur.

Roger De Zeeuw, manager of the Rock Valley Elevator, attended a fertilizer sales workshop in Mankato, Minnesota this week. Michael Miller, son of Clarence and Mrs Miller, will attend an automotive mechanics school in Omaha, with classes starting February 1.
Farmers are urged to attend a Monday evening meeting at the vocational agriculture building in Rock Valley. Ed Kleene, Biolix County extension director, will discuss dairy herd improvement and provide information for dairymen and farmers. A good turnout is hoped.
Rock Valley edged Central Lyon 56 to 49 in Siouxland Conference action Friday night to seize sole position atop the standings. Ron Postma sank four free throws in the closing seconds as Rock Valley improved to 8-1, while Central Lyon fell to 6-2 with two league losses.
The Pioneer Methodist congregation held its last service in the old church on Sunday January 24 to honor long time members and mark the transition to the new building the following Sunday January 31. The service included solos by Ed De Haas words from former ministers and a baptism for Brian Wade Grossenburg. A United Appeal drive for Rock Valley Garfield and Settlers townships begins February 1 with a six day run through February 6.
Rock Valley Community school district voters will try again to approve bonds exceeding 230000 to build and furnish a gymnasium and prepare a site at the current fieldhouse area. Election set for Tuesday February 23 at Rock Valley Town Hall from noon to 7 pm with a yes or no ballot.
More than 2 000 attendees from Owen Manning of Farmers Elevator Co Rock Valley join FELCO FGDA and FEMIC at annual meeting in Des Moines this week drawing farmers from across the state to discuss policies and services.
