Bedell Surveys Sioux County Livestock Losses From Blizzard

Congressman Berkley Bedell of Spirit Lake toured Sioux County to assess livestock losses from the blizzard of 1975. He spoke with farmers at a Sioux Center barn and later visited Tony Hoover’s farm near Rock Valley where a cattle shed collapsed, leaving losses exceeding one hundred head.

Officials Meet Over Lighting at Rock Valley Intersection

City officials led by City Clerk Bill Van Maanen and Fifth District Supervisor Pete Timmer met with highway commission leaders yesterday in Sioux City to discuss installing lights at the intersection of Highways 18 and 75. The meeting was postponed once due to highway commission unavailability. no outcome was available as the Bee went to press.

City estimates $2500 snow removal cost

City officials estimate that cleanup after the recent storm will cost about 2500 dollars. The expense mainly covers extra help truck and equipment rental and repairs as reported by City Clerk Bill Van Maanen. Residents praised the workers for their efforts despite the high price tag.

City Council Advances Street Upgrades With County Aid

Rock Valley council agreed to hire an engineer to plan paving curb gutters on 17th Street and several alleys plus 21st Avenue. Estimated cost 178000 with county to cover about 78000. County expects to blacktop 21st Avenue east to the Doon road in 1976. The move was unanimous but not a firm commitment.
