A Van Ek of Sheldon and Mr and Mrs J Van Steenwyk of Sioux Center with Miss Gertrude Van Ek of Denver visited in the Wm Schouten home Tuesday leaving a cordial record of family ties across Iowa and Colorado communities.
Mr Evink is very ill this week at his daughter Mrs C Van Dyke. Frances Jacobsma had appendix surgery at Hull hospital last Friday and is recovering. Walter McNamara Mrs E Suter and Mrs Jennie Vande Stowe were summoned to Orange City for jury duty but the judge was ill and they were dismissed to return Wednesday morning.
A dealer lists numerous used autos from 1927 to 1939 including Chev, Pontiac, Ford, Dodge, Buick and more with sedan town sedans coupes and trucks. Cash terms trade and a note that stocks change daily though few of these have been advertised before.
Old Man Winter returns bringing temperatures near zero with snow covering the ground by Monday night. Skating and pond fun abound as residents adapt to the thawing point by Tuesday. Mentions of Governor Wilson’s frugal travel in a 1937 Chevrolet and local workers’ wage issues. long-established residents reflect on half-century ties to the area including J. C. Wiggerman and Miss Clara Miller’s trip to Florida for the winter.
Mrs C J Schroeder gave an insightful talk on the Latin American education system to the club Friday afternoon. She compared South American schooling with U S methods, noting progress and barriers from traditional structures. Vocal duets by Catherine Achatz and others delighted members as plans for a community aid project were reported. The next meeting will feature Roy Miller describing South American life and travel.
Wilma Cherbout married John Boer in a home ceremony Wednesday afternoon at the Cherbout home Hall. Rev G H Dounsiva of the First Reformed church officiated in front of relatives and friends. The couple will reside on a farm near Six Cent er, with both families well known in the area. The Hull Index extends best wishes for happiness and prosperity.
The Christophersons and Mrs Harley Christopher son hosted a social for public school teachers and their wives at their home last Thursday. Bridge was the main pastime of the evening.
Mr and Mrs C M Smith left last Saturday for Santa Ana California to spend a few weeks visiting relatives and friends and escape part of the winter weather common in this region.
Mr and Mrs Vande Weerd entertained at their home Monday evening. The gathering included guests Mr and Mrs Frank Kersbergen Mr and Mrs John Dykstra and Mr and Mrs R E Woolridge. The diversion of the hours was 500.
Mrs. McNelly entertained the Thursday Club at her home last Thursday afternoon. Other guests included Mesdames Schirmer H W Jacobs and Manning. Mrs J H Kearns held high score.
