Highway Investment Aims to Pay for Roads Without Tax Hikes
State engineer Fred White notes Iowa has spent 137,5000,000 since 1926 on permanent highway construction. The highway system reportedly funds itself without direct property taxation or higher motor vehicle taxes. Gasoline tax, in place since 1928, is the only new highway revenue.
