The Rock Valley Band Parents Club reports a successful drive for new band uniforms, totaling over $8,000 this week. Donors and solicitors receive thanks as uniforms are expected for spring events. Note: no mail on Monday due to Washington's Birthday observance.

Mr and Mrs Adrian Oldenkamp of Rock Valley will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday February 20 the pair wed February 1919 near Rock Valley. He later served as mayor for 13 years. Their children are John Harrisburg SD George Rock Valley Harold Platteau SD. Mr and Mrs Gerrit Wissink of Rock Valley will celebrate their 50th anniversary with open house Sunday February 22 from 2 to 4 at the V E W Hall hosted by their children and families including Robert Engel Boulder Colorado and Berbard Wissink Sheldon Ned Vande Stouwe Grimsell relatives invited no gifts requested.

Cub Scouts and parents of Pack 217 gathered February 16 at 6 30 p m at Haas Hall for a Blue and Gold Banquet presided by Cubmaster Robert Richter. Den 3 led with songs and a brief candlelight service before the pledge. Rev Ballard spoke on parent boy teamwork and investment in scouting. Three boys were inducted into the Boy Scout program by Scout Leader John Paul Collenbaugh with Kim Hamann Danny Collenbaugh and Jeff Keizer assisting. Awards were presented to boys for their efforts.
Servicemen's News reports Private William HK van Veldhuizen, 19, son of Mr and Mrs Jon van Veldhuizen of Route 2, Doos In, has been assigned on December 23 to the 52nd Artillery Group in Vietnam as a cannon crewman.
Mr and Mrs John Koenigs of Mapleton celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary on January 11. The couple were married at St Marys church, then newly completed in Mapleton in 1910.
