A Rock Valley Christian school second grade class led by Mrs. Ben Huisken demonstrates the season’s spirit through three projects. Students wrote letters to Vietnam servicemen, raised over 320 dollars for Foreign and Home Mission Fields, and collected fruit for elderly residents in Valley Manor and local rest homes.

Deans of Main Street figure dies after 55 years in Rock Valley
Hessel Roorda a prominent Rock Valley business man and inventor of farm equipment died at 80 after a brief illness. He and his son ran Roorda Machine Shop and pioneered rubber tires on tractors in 1921. Funeral Friday in Rock Valley with Porter Funeral Home services. He left a widow Mary and three daughters, one son Hessel, 11 grandchildren, and siblings.

Dr. Francis Richter, a former Hock Valley resident and son of Mrs. Marie Richter, opens a chiropractic clinic at 1921 South Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls. A 1959 Rock Valley High School and Palmer College graduate, he has served in the armed forces, held Democratic Party roles in Miner County, and moved between Aberdeen and South Dakota politics and campaign work.

Santa Claus To Be Here on Saturday
The Rock Valley Commercial Club reports a telegram from Santa Claus confirming his visit this Saturday Dec 21 at 3 30 p m at the old Roorda Building Main Ave Santa will give free candy sacks to children and may call on shut in kids by request to Tom Van Holland. The club also offers free turkeys with daily drawings Dec 19 20 21 and 23 at 8 00 pm each evening, ten turkeys per drawing. Stores will stay open late to aid shopping before Christmas.
