Berthelsen Recovering From Hunting Mishap
Rod Berthelsen aged 19 from Rock Valley is in serious condition at Sioux Valley Hospital after a hunting accident near Canon. A double barrel shotgun discharged while he was exiting a camper, injuring Berthelsen and causing surgery that removed his adrenal gland and spleen and involved his lung and stomach wounds.

Rock Valley Muscular Dystrophy Campaign coordinator Mrs. Cornelius Van Zalten announced the annual House to House March to raise funds for the northwest Iowa chapter of MDA. The drive begins December 12 with volunteers visiting homes the week of December 11 to solicit contributions for research and medical devices such as wheelchairs braces beds and hydraulic lifts.

Damage seen in two car crash near Rock Valley
Hermon Cope Van Blilk of Rock Valley was driving on December 2 when he attempted a left turn and struck a southbound 4 panel pickup driven by Gerrit Baker of Doon. Van Eldik’s 1972 pickup sustained 1000 dollars damage and Baker’s 1971 Ford panel truck 500 dollars. Van Eldik suffered a chin cut and was treated and released. Patrolman Miller cited Van Eldik for failure to yield right of way.

Alesch Indicted in Rape Case Amid Basketball Ratings
Alesch of Marcus was indicted by the Sioux County Grand Jury on November 27 for rape stemming from an incident on November 11 involving a Dotdt College coed. He posted a $5,000 bond. Rock Valley is ranked 15th and Sioux Center 10th in state class A ratings. Rock Valley sports a 4 9 record and Sioux Center 1-0. The teams may meet in the Siouxland conference tournament on December 16 if they win.
