Bob Smith on Tour of Europe

Bob Smith nineteen year old son of Mrs and Mrs Smith of Rock Avenue is on a thirty day tour of Europe. A Navy signalman stationed at Rota Spain since February he earned a base trophy as Most Outstanding Football Player and ranked in athletics. A 1966 Rock Valley High graduate he played end for the football team. Emmett Schantha visited with him on Wars tour of Europe recently.

Christmas Customs and Foods of Germany Sioux Extension Theme

Fair Success for Area Deer Hunters

Rock Valley area deer hunters reported success as the five day season ended Sunday. A check at ATJ Market and Valley Lockers showed several successful hunters including Herman Dykstra Jr, Gene Bunch, Alvin Mulder, John Uauman, Lee Schledy, Jim Wilko, Jake Ver Malm, Ed Abema and Dick Dirksen.

Barbara Kooima to Sing With Cyclone Chorus

Barbara J. Kooima will sing with the freshman chorus at Iowa State University’s 14th Annual Christmas Festival of Music, 2 and 8 p.m. Sunday December 10 at the Armory. Admission free. reserved seats 50 cents for chairs, 25 cents for bleachers at the Hub Ticket Office. The festival features about 809 musicians and a 100 by 18 foot abstract mural by Allen Jonas. Will Jumper provides a narration with texts from Isaiah, Vergil, Blake, Ferlinghetti, and Ginsberg. Participants include the Iowa State Singers, Oratorio Choirs, Men’s Glee Club, Festival Chorus, and the Iowa State Symphony. Directed by W. Douglas Pritchard and N. Laurence Burkhalter.

Enlisted Navy man to begin San Diego boot camp

Sioux Center Bank Sues For $453.42

The First National Bank of Sioux Center filed a suit against Tames D. Van Ottarloo for 459.42 plus interest and attorney fees on a promissory note. A writ of attachment was issued against the defendant's property. Guardianship actions involve Mary K. Kell en and others with a $16,000 bond. A Hull, Ta. resident was shot Nov 25 and hospitalized. Fire Department Answered 29 Calls in 1967

The Rock Valley Fire Department logged 29 calls during 1967 with two planned fires at the former Hoy Pagelar and De Mauw homes. An average of 13 of 15 members responded, with no injuries or loss of life. At a monthly meeting, Berman Dirleen became secretary treasurer and Tot Van Holland and Dea Canne gieter were assigned to keep the fire trucks clean. John Dykstra marked his 40th year as fire chief, with several named long-time members listed and Harold Roelofs named an honorary member.
