Improvements Mode School Ready To Open
Summer-long projects at the local public school wrap up as the building prepares for next Monday’s influx of students. Superintendent Nick Hulst reports numerous upgrades including repaired play equipment repainted exteriors and interior paint for most classrooms. Floors have been refinished and restrooms and fountains plumbing repaired. Locker rooms repairs and repainting aim for completion before classes resume August 27.

Labor Day Plans for Rock Valley Donkey Ball Festival
Plans announce a Labor Day celebration in Rock Valley on Monday September 3 beginning at 2 PM at the local ball park. Donkey ball features Kiwanis vs VFW with prizes and ring toss coin toss and bingo games. A dunk tank will showcase local dignitaries. Admission 50 cents to 75 cents for children and adults. profits go to Hegg Memorial Hospital. Coordinators include Don Doom Dwayne Bander Henry Bakker Jake Timmer Harey Jansma. Parking and bus upgrades noted. The event follows staff meetings for new teaching assignments.

Rock Valley Sales Top $22 Million in Fiscal Year
A study by the Department of Revenue shows Rock Valley businesses posted gross sales of 22.59 million for the year ended June 30 1973, down from 29.12 million in 1971. Taxable sales rose with Rock Valley and neighboring towns posting year over year gains in sales tax payments. Sioux County towns over 500 population begin year with teachers reporting and school bells set for 3 50 AM Monday.

Registration sessions run evenings at 7 30 with option to choose times. Fees cover meal tickets for August and September totaling 48 40 per student 4 20 for Kindergarten. Free lunch applications accepted at registration. First day Monday August 27 at 9 AM at First Christian Reformed Church Kindergarten dismissed 11 30. Buses run 3 40 for ES 1 8.
