Miss Anni De Vries, chief operator at Hull, received a formal commendation from W F Covad, Northwestern Bell general Superintendent of traffic, for staying at the switchboard during a 1924 fire. Her prompt actions aided fire crews and contributed to safety, with the note praising her duty and community spirit.
Harder road patrolman Glen Adolph was fired on three times by occupants of a speeding car between Sanborn and Hartley at about 9 p.m. The officer, riding a motorcycle, fired back and pursued the vehicle which fled toward Algona Mason City and beyond, the car described as large Hudson with three men, possibly wanted for a serious crime.
