The Rock Valley City audit shows a favorable financial position with a year end balance of $108 890.01 for 1971 down from $122 719.25 in 1970 largely due to $28 000 sewer plant construction. Net gains occurred in several funds though recreation ran a $120.77 loss.
About 190 persons attended the Farmer's Elevator Annual meeting where officers reported continued growth and refunds. Ron Bajema read the financial report showing $134 354.76 returned to members and $29 470.90 in volume discounts. Door prizes were awarded. new board members Ted Hanschau and Ono Bajema were re elected, and Walter C. Moore joined as a director. Lunch tickets and gifts were handed out as attendance rose 25 percent over last year.
In Rock Township, votes for county Supervisor show Timmer 423, Dorhout 92, Weselink 19, with county Attorney totals Veldhuizen 3143, Heubregtan 1228, Te Paake 1922. Supervisor Wesgelink 18, Dorhout 210, Timmer 689, Dorhout 210, Timmer winning candidate.
Monday Youth Day in Rock Valley drew about 300 attendees at the z ining portion. Baton twirling, a 9 kid parade, acts and crafts, and baseball opened with refreshments as two baseball teams squared off. Winners were named in parade, vehicle, bike, and costume contests with proceeds funding the summer program. An all star baseball game closed the day.
Assessor Willis Meylink says Rock Valley will next face full residential property reassessment after Hull work wraps. Appraiser Obbink and Bast Hick start August 4 with city cooperation urged. State order requires reassessment at a value near 1970 valuations. county projections show a 24 percent shift.
About 400 registered for Rock Valley Junior High Auditorium event with 200 plus entries. Jean Porter won sweepstakes for her arrangement. ties for blue ribbons between Hans Maller and Gertrude De Jager. Todd Vander Velde led 11 and under. Minga Harmelink headed 12 to 16. Kathryn Wessink won most artistic. Margaret Shutt top horticultural entry. Judges included Art Hansen of Lawrood. Local church and civic groups sponsor the annual show.
Auditor reports Sioux County 1970 assessments total real and personal property 92 745 845 dollars with school taxes forwarded totaling 4 191 888 52 dollars. Auto licenses revenue 302 553 42 and use tax 184 913 10. idle funds earned 1967 1968 1969 1970 totals credited to General County Fund.
Tax receipts forwarded to fourteen communities totaling 814167.19. Counties and towns listed include Orange City Sioux Center Rock Valley Hawarden Hospers and Sheldon. Frozen monies and credits from 1966 amount to 5841036001073251006914287.00. Northwest Iowa Vocational School received Treasurer's orders totaling 143069.39.
