Funeral services for Mrs Ed Moss held in Hull

Funeral services for Mrs Hattie Moss of Hull were held Monday in the home and at the First Reformed church with Rev Wit C De Jong officiating. Born Hattie Wattswinkel in the Netherlands on May 30 1280 she came to America at six and grew to womanhood near Carmel. She married Ed Moss on December 13. Five children were born to the union. one died in infancy and son Cornice was killed in an accident on April 5 1949. Mrs Moss died after a severe stroke April 19. She leaves her husband two daughters Tracy and Jennie a son Bernard eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Cattle Feeders Banquet Held in Sioux County

A large turnout attended the Sioux County Cattle Feeders banquet Tuesday night. Glenn Benson won the cattle price guess contest and Mr Wattenbaum of Alton was closest to the April 1 hog price. Music featured Jim Rielly Allen Vander Well and Clarence Kema on organ.

Iowa code revision committee eyes municipal law simplification

The Iowa State Legislative Committee plans code changes to modernize municipal statutes. It will propose one general powers chapter and remove up to 1500 obsolete code sections to make laws clearer for citizens.

Granddaughter of Local Resident Dies in Smashup

Glenda Dykstra granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Charious Dykstra of Rock Valley was killed instantly in an automobile accident Sunday evening. Her parents Mr and Mrs Henry Dykstra of LeMars were taken to Sacred Heart hospital with non serious injuries. The crash on highway 78 north of LeMars involved Owen Berg Hawarden high school senior. Berg and teen passengers uninjured. Dykstras returning from Orange City visit.

Rock Valley Baseball Opens Practice With Manager Wixter

Ernie Winter, manager of the 1959 Rock Valley baseball team, announces a first practice session at the ball park next Thursday night May 4. All prospective players should meet in the locker room at 6 30 pm. New jetty and local prospects will receive fair opportunity to show their skills ahead of the season opener.

Hold Last Rites Here Wednesday For John T. Spain

Funeral mass for 85 year old John T. Spain was held at St. Mary's Catholic church with Fr. Davi McGoey officiating. Burial was at La Heart cemetery in Alvord. Surviving are six children, 12 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. several brothers and a sister. The family resided with Agnes Dolwrly in recent years and pallbearers included William, James, Matt, Leo, John, and Dan Spain.

Rock Valley Forms New Sioux County Softball League Team

A group of local softball enthusiasts form Rock Valley as part of the new Sioux County League. The league includes Trull Sioux Center Manzice Haspers Boyden Matlock and Sheldon with home games on Wednesday nights. Bob Keuiman will manage the team.

Elevator to be sold at public auction Saturday

East area notice says the Farmers Elevator company will auction the red metal elevator structure, feed shed, driveway office, and equipment before or during the sale. The 15 000 bushel capacity elevator, driveway and office space to be repurposed as a machine shed, with a feed shed 80 by 48 feet. Auction follows plan for a new concrete storage building by Orion Construction of Omaha starting June 1, completion around September 19. Northwest Iowa Baseball League adopts 18 game schedule

The Northwest Iowa Baseball League voted to shorten its season from 27 to 18 games to fix unbalanced home dates. Ten teams will play each other twice, once at home and once away, with the last league game on August 8 and playoffs the following week. Rock Valley opens Decoration Day in a night exhibition with Letchwood.

May We Present Mace Klomp of Rock Valley

Mace Klomp, long time regional resident and merchant, has become a notable booster for Rock Valley. Born in Holland in 1893, he migrated to America with his parents and grew up on a Lebanon area farm before pursuing business ventures in Doon, Iréeton, and Rock Valley. In 1937 he worked for Hessel Roorda and in 1943 opened the Alomp Radiator shop. this year he acquired the Variety Store in Rock Valley. His son Edward now runs the radiator business, and Klomp is seen as a future participant in local committees and community movements as he settles into new ownership and duties.
