Death of John Van Orsten in Hayden Iowa
John Van Orsten longtime Hayden resident and former employee of the Hayden Hardware Company died Tuesday morning after a five week illness. Funeral services were held Thursday at the house and at the Reformed church with interment in Baydes cemetery. Van Orsten was born August 14, 1884 in the Netherlands and came to the county two years seven months ago with his family, first residing at Rock Valley. He leaves his wife and four sons and was well known in the community. The obituary notes no local relatives.

School Notes Record Strong Attendance at Banquet
The attendance throughout the ataies was exceptionally good last week with no absences and only one tardiness. Seniors and Juniors joined for a Junior Senior Lantern banquet at the D of A Hall on April 2. Roses, butterflies, lanterns and a five course dinner set a garden-like scene. Forty at four-person tables, white dressed Sophomore girls, toasts between courses. Prizes in essay contests awarded by W T U. Bake sale planned at the Post Office next Saturday. Seniors advance play under Wis. Margan supervision.

Sioux County Board of Supervisors, in Orange City on April 17, 1923, ordered all persons with livestock killed by dogs or wolves to notify the precinct overseer for witness testimony.
