What the Bill Provides for Road Funding
The road bill will not add funds for primary roads beyond one third of the gasoline tax and a portion of motor vehicle license money. Since 1921 primary road spending averaged about $12.1 million annually, but the new law reserves only about $5.88 million per year for primary roads. The High Commission gains full authority over maintenance and final say in construction disputes, with a development fund of around $4 million sourced from federal aid and gasoline tax.
