An ordinance allows courts to sentence able bodied offenders over sixteen to hard labor in lieu of or with jail. Labor can occur on streets or public grounds up to eight hours daily under marshal supervision. Punishments include confinement, bread and water, and credits of one dollar fifty cents per day of labor.
The town council of Rock Valley Iowa enacts ordinances against nuisances affecting health and property. It requires owners or occupants to abate nuisances within twenty four hours after notice and allows collection of abatement costs via taxes if unpaid. Violations carry fines up to one hundred dollars and imprisonment up to thirty days.
An old Rock Valley Iowa ordinance defines and licenses a wide range of vocations from fortune tellers to peddlers and transient merchants. It sets license ages, daily, weekly and yearly fees, mayoral approval and revocation rights, nontransferable licenses, penalties for violations, and enforcement details.
Ordinance 14 regulates dog licensing and running at large. Owners must license dogs over three months, wear a metal or leather tag, and collars bearing owner name. Fees are one dollar for males or spayed bitches, three dollars for females. Licenses issued before March 1. strict rules on vicious dogs.
