Nomination of Henry Clay and New York Whig Resolve
A New York Whig meeting urges Henry Clay for the presidential ticket, arguing he can win New York if the state votes for him in the House. Dudley Selden notes party divisions, asserts Clay’s viability, and urges rapid support to secure New York’s electoral vote. Additionally, Lawrence Institute notes a $10,000 donation and plans to build a preparatory department, while Wisconsin records report a Brooklyn fire loss near $700,000 and talk of American iron superiority over English rails.
