Wisconsin readers urged to build Lake Michigan to Mississippi railroad
A Madison correspondence excerpt argues for an early railroad from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi, detailing potential routes from Milwaukee or Galena, the need to connect western Wisconsin mining counties to eastern markets, and the lead trade's importance. It cites letters from railroad proponents and local officials urging action to boost trade, population, and regional power.
