Lexington Mass Sept 5 Atte General Bonaparte issued a public statement on the Alton case in the Illinois court. The department sees the pact as aiding indictments and convictions and pledges to honor it in good faith. A Rock Island freight on the Montezuma branch broke a wooden bridge near Muscatine causing eleven cars to plunge into Pike Run. The engine remained on one bank and a toppled caboose teetered on the other.
