News from London notes Japanese and British forces retreating from Amoy and Kulang Suan, with marines returning from Formosa. Dispatches say Russian and Chinese negotiations continue as powers seek terms for a new treaty and Chinese government stability.
Mrs. George Kean was found dead near Lawnrider after a buggy sank in a slough caused by a washed-out culvert. A neighbor, Mrs. Jackson, attempted to free the horse and buggy but grew exhausted in heavy rains. Mrs. Jackson, longtime Peoria resident, faced the tragedy amid a rural county community.
Fire destroyed broom corn valued at 15000 at Duncan Tarbox warehouse, with ten box cars and a mill suffering losses. Insurance on the broom corn was 10000. total loss estimated at 25000. Also reports census figures for Davenport Iowa and Sioux City Iowa showing population shifts.

London Kentucky Sept 1 Scott Stanley was tried and acquitted by Judge Stanberry. As he left the courtroom he was attacked by Grant Hamilton John Peters and Atom Black and stabbed in the back with likely fatal injuries. All three assailants are under arrest and further trouble is feared.
General Stevenson plans a Midwest swing through Illinois with stops at Joliet on September 10 Streager on the 11th Vandalia on the 12th East St. Louis on the 13th Havana on the 11th Rock Island on the 15th. He is accompanied by Hon. James Todd.
Akron officials report twelve local working men were arrested today for participation in the riot that occurred last week in the city.
