In La Crosse Wisconsin on November 6 Phil Alten Jr vice president of the First National Bank of Mineral Point was indicted by a U S grand jury on 26 counts covering almost every banking law violation. Alten pleaded not guilty and the trial was scheduled for December in Dane county court. Bail was set at 50 000. The government estimated losses and embezzlement at varying totals up to about 700 000 in this case.
