Chicago dispatches report ideal weather boosting turnout as Taft Bryan and other candidates vote at home. In Illinois Deneen faces heavy scratching while Cook County expected to swing against him with a very large, fast, early vote and minimal disturbances.
Boston voters begin recounting results from five Massachusetts precincts with Bryan leading Taft and Hisgen. Draper ahead in Massachusetts. Early returns show gaps vs 1904 as polling slows with many candidates and heavy turnout. statewide notes on New York and Washington voting follow with machine use and civil service influence mentioned.
William Howard Taft closed his campaign in Youngstown with speeches and a lengthy parade before heading to Cincinnati to vote. He urged voters to back the Republican ticket for prosperity and workers’ rights, pledging continued sympathy for labor despite opposition from Samuel Gompers.
Amoy marked the 70th birthday of China's dowager empress with festivities centered on the arrival and visit of American battleships. Sailors joined local celebrations as events spread through the city.

Democratic National Chairman Norman E. Mack claims a Bryan Kern victory with 333 electoral votes and predicts New York will give a 56 000 plurality. He and labor leader Samuel M. Gompers discuss mobilizing the vote and election fraud penalties. Republican Chairman Hitchcock insists his tally supports a Tait win and says forecasts may rise with normal conditions nationwide.
Cincinnati reports Taft could not vote at noon due to pressing office matters but planned to cast his ballot later in the afternoon. Ohio stops highlight a day of election activity as other figures, including Kern and Sherman, vote and return home. Roosevelt votes at Oyster Bay and returns to Sagamore Hill amid village turnout.
ThE Argus will flash election results from the Argus Building to a Rock Island House screen across Second Avenue. The paper adds an exclusive wire in the building with a special operator and uses Western Union and long distance telephone lines for speed.
After nearly a year of negotiations L C Wolf president of the Aurora Elgin Chicago Traction company and Senator Albert J Hopkins have bought the Aurora Daily News. The paper opposed Hopkins for 20 years under former owner W S Frazier whose son L B Frazier just sold out. Captain C H Smith president of Western Wheeled Scraper works is also in the deal.
In Lincoln Nebraska on November 3 1908 a record crowd greeted William Jennings Bryan as he returned from a day of speeches in Kansas. The nonpartisan celebration mixed Democrats and Republicans with a citizen’s reception, a long parade, and a speech at Hotel Lincoln where Bryan spoke about reform and vowed no one who votes for him will be ashamed of their choice. He expressed belief he would be elected and hinted at a moral awakening among Americans. The address closed with a moving peroration urging honest politics.
St Louis reports Oliver R. Burk bart republican judge of election was beaten near a Third street polling place this morning. Police made about a dozen arrests before noon including Felix McAdams democratic nominee for the Third district legislature.
