Frank G. Young a senior partner of Young & McCombs and Rock Island’s leading merchant formed in 1876 from Weyerhauser Deakins mill store. He opened a grocery at 1103 Third Avenue then a four department store in Rock Island National Bank Building later expanding to the present Second Avenue structure. He helped create city street decorations and promoted interurban roads while serving as chairman of several committees and as secretary of the interurban line.
