By order of a state board the majority of the Philadelphia RecordPublishs stock and basis were sold today to William Senger of Philadelphia for 2,954,000 dollars. Senger served as secretary of the commonwealth during Gov Pattison's first term.
A Chicago youth named Fred Fowler, 13, sacrificed himself attempting to save four boys from a leaky canoe, rescuing Albert Smith before drowning along with Leonard Wall and Harry Morris. Smith was revived after being pulled ashore.
May 15 Point Pleasant reports the American hotel and three adjoining buildings burned overnight. Seven people died, including priests and professors from the area. Fire destroyed the lodging and caused extensive property loss estimated at 320,000 dollars.

No sounds have been heard since Tuesday morning, easing alarm sparked by the Martinique disaster. Families previously considering relocation were reassured. the real cause remains unclear, likely heated underground peat or rock.
New York May 15 Lewis Nixon quits as leader of Tammany Hall after calling a district leaders meeting and refusing a vote of confidence. He said he would devote himself to shipbuilding and leave politics. The meeting followed a factional deadlock and Nixon stated his decision was final and immediate.
Hazleton May 15 The anthracite mine workers convention met twice and recessed after no action on a permanent strike. President Mitchell opened with a report on negotiations with civic federation and coal company presidents. Scranton reports a regional survey shows three for and five against the strike in Hazleton deliberations.
Senator George E Nichols of Sonia was arraigned in a Grand Rapids police court on subornation of perjury to induce Frederick H Carman, a key witness in the Salisbury bribery case, to perjure himself. Nichols appeared lightly in court and as his own attorney was present. his lawyers A A Ellis and ER Hawley will represent him in superior court, with trial set for May 25.
In Washington Indiana a suit seeks 2500 dollars from the Collier Shovel and Stamping Co and two men over a factory bonus. The city had agreed the plant would operate ten years and hire at least 150 workers, with the bonus to revert if the contract was violated. The company moved to Hammond and offered to repay half the bonus, which was rejected. The case argues the city had no right to grant such a incentive under Indiana law.
Charles Ram say, a Hastings Neb. farmer, caused the arrest of his wife and of George B. Fox of Janesville Wis. found with Fox in a hotel room. Both waived hearing, held on $50 bonds to await the grand jury, and fined $5.25 each on disorderly conduct charges, prompting hotel sensationalism.

London May 15 Andrew Carnegie received the freedom of the Plumbers' company in a casket at Guild Hall. He said wealth distribution is harder than acquisition, spoke of New York funding libraries, and urged arbitration and mutual learning between the United States and Britain.
