A British steamer Aquila was sunk after a German submarine torpedoed it in the Turkish zone. The vessel carried crew of 30 and 140 passengers, with eight of the rescued dying from exposure. Additional reports describe Allied bombardments and Turkish frontier actions as tensions in the region escalate.

In an experimental move, the Decorators' and Painters' club sent letters to 11,000 union glaziers painters and paper hangers directing workers to avoid strikes. The letters urge ignoring the contract form the painters' council says must be enforced after tomorrow. Samuel Gompers aided efforts easing local tensions and avoiding a general strike in the building trades.

Chicago dispatch reports Burell Billig of Madison Wisconsin taken on suspicion in Emma Peterson murder in Aurora last month. He was identified by witness Catherine Popadek as one of two men who attempted a robbery yesterday. Billig claimed he was at home in Madison the night of the Peterson killing. He formerly worked at Mooseheart and visited Aurora in December.

He helped break news of Lincoln's election and later practiced with Conkling and Cullom among others. Police report references to Betty Patterson and a tragic Springfield death and a gasoline explosion in Rockford.

In Bedford Indiana on March 30 Mrs Sitler wife of the sheriff seized her husband's revolver and stopped a wholesale jail escape after Cecil Lay and William Green slipped past the turnkey and opened the way for others. The scene moved to the stairwell as she confronted the remaining prisoners. In New York Harry K Thaw faced a habeas corpus hearing at the county courthouse with counsel agreeing to postpone the decision to April 5.
